A great place to get started is Music and traditions of the Arabian peninsula by Lisa Urkevich (former professor of musicology at AUK), which provides a pioneering overview of folk and traditional urban music, along with dance and rituals, of Saudi Arabia and the Upper Gulf States of Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar.

Shakespeare is well-known and beloved the world over, and he is no stranger to the Gulf region, where artists have adapted his resonant works in ways that really speak to their reality.
